Transmission removal J11961 J Series Limo

From Bill: Well I got Tom’s model J transmission apart. All the bearings are a little noisy but could just be 1920’s tolerances. I think I can find bearings. But It needs the low gear on the lower cluster shaft. And probably best to replace the upper slider gear at the same time because it has been running on the pitted and worn lower gear. The rear main shaft has some pouting and wear on the bearing snout if I can find it also. If not I can have it machined to fit a different bearing or built up and remachined. Does anyone know of any parts?

More from Bill: I went to see Daryl Sorenson while I was in New Orleans a couple weeks ago. He had a transmission that he had gotten from Duane Perrin after the fire. I had high hopes it had some parts I could use. But upon inspection it evidently had been in a race car of some type. The parts I needed (low gear on the cluster and the top low/reverse slider gear) had been removed. Reverse idler low/reverse shift fork had all been removed. The cluster had a spacer made to take the place of the missing gears. The 2nd/high shift had a piece of steel welded so the shifter couldn’t come out of the notch. Everything looked well done and for a purpose. But it had gotten really hot and everything was too rusty to use anyway. Daryl’s 2 cars are amazing and his hospitality was over the top. Thank you sir for letting us see your treasures!

And more: Here are the bearings out of the transmission. I’ll try to do a schematic of all the pieces before I assemble it.
