Understanding Advance and Retard on the J8-90 & H8-90 Stearns

We had a number of issues with the steering controls on our car which are now worked out. But the question I had was which way on the column was advance and which was retard. I could not find it in the owner's manual. Mike points out that the distributor is rotating counter clockwise and using the firing order from the owner's manual which starts with #1 then #6 he identifies clockwise rotation advances ignition.
